Law or love?

wow. that book was pretty awesome. Though the ending frustrated me, it was easy, and fun to read.
I believe that the horse in this novel (nutty..kind of a coincidence) is a symbol of freedom because of David's insane family. What he went through is a family's worst nightmare. The horse was his mental and physical escape from his family, and the problems that happened . When they were at dinner, David wanted to get away as soon as he got there to just ride away from his problems. I think now a days when things like this happen (which hopefully is not too often) the child that has to witness it, and suffer through this, will use sports (which David wasn't too good at) or their friends as their mental or physical escape.
Something else that was carried throughout the novel was the competitiveness of the two brothers trying to be better than each other. Connect that to modern day. thats easy, I have an older sister. (who probably will read this.)Frank and Wesley were constantly competing to be better than each other, starting from when they were little. Oh another symbol i forgot! Dr. Franks' black bag. David mentioned it every time he was over. In one part, he said that if he opened it the whole room would get sucked in, or the lighting,whatever. but i think it kinda showed how that he brought the black bag in when he was with Marie (and killed her). Poor Marie, I really liked her, and i never expected her to die within the first couple pages.
What else, well lets see, Dr. Frank killed himself. Thats how the book ended, a happy ending right. how bad would you feel if your the reason why your brother killed himself. I would feel pretyyy bad. Because he was my brother, I would have given him special treatment (i know what he did was wrong,but if your family, your supposed to be there for your sibling through whatever) and when he threw his little temper tauntrum, I would have gone down to calm him down, and then saw what he had did, and probably could have saved his life. but of course thats not what happened. Something else that I found reoccurring, was that they are constantly running away from their problems, starting with the Grandpa. he did not want to accept that Dr. Frank was doing this, and ignored it, and tried to make Davids dad feel the same way. Then at the end, yes i understand that she didn't want to live in the house that someone died in, but why would she leave? That only makes it clearer that they don't want to deal with the consequences. an even bigger event that supports this, is that David felt that if he had killed Dr. Frank when he was watching him and his dad fight, it would have made all of the problems go away.
Overall, I thought the book was too easy to understand. That i was missing an important part, but when really I knew exactly what was going on.
